Always An Artist. In waking life and in my dreams.
I remember: While almost asleep on my feet in my waitress shoes, with five tables waiting, analyzing the patterns and repetitions in the dessert tray, thinking, “If the lemon chiffon could go here, and the blueberry pie there, the composition would be better.”
And I remember: While my three pre-schoolers slept, their worn-out mother dreaming the bluest blue (probably cerulean) flowing like an encircling hug, from the brush that was my fingertip.
It’s no different now, as an art instructor at Coconino Community College in Flagstaff. The quest and celebration continue! For the purity of color, the satisfaction of well-placed pattern, the integrity of the perfect line in the perfect place – whether my own or a student’s. Always An Artist means living many lives, simultaneously and fully.
My favorite media are acrylic, watercolor, ink, and graphite. Recently I’ve become re-fascinated with the still life. I like to glide on the edge of abstraction. Yet I appreciate the challenge of drawing the human figure with precision and sensitivity.
At Macalester College in Minnesota I majored in art and minored in English. Some of my art is in private collections. Since 2002 I’ve taught Drawing I & II, Oil & Acrylic Painting I & II, and Life Drawing at Coconino Community College. If you wish to know more, please visit my website. And if you just want to enjoy the art, that’s great, and makes me happy.
